Self-love. Many of us remember to practice it during crucial seasons. Perhaps the beginning of a new year. Personally, I know my Sundays are reserved for chilling and recharging for the week ahead.
With the COVID-19 forcing us to stay home and re-evaluate our personal hygiene, I have been on a Cinderella-overload mode. From de-cluttering (oh, that is so good for my soul!) to re-decorating, I'm taking full advantage of the extra time in my hands to plan for my personal and professional growth.
As with all growth, self-love please a pivot role. I'm guessing -- like many of us, your desk is part and parcel of your productivity. It is where you plan, you execute, where your mind whirs, your eyes strain, and your fingers crunch. Which led me to realise that our desks, is a space where we need self-love!
Our desks need to serve as reminders to be kind to ourselves. Reminders of our value, worth, and plans. I love scrolling through gorgeously-cluttered, Pinterest-perfect desks on the WWW. Though personally, the minimalist in me needs something simple and practical.
1. Include art at your desk
Include at least one piece that inspires you. The more beautiful your desk looks and feels, the more inviting it is, and you'll feel more contented + nourished spending time at it. For a long time, I struggled with building a vision board. Something that held up quotes, pictures, and ideas, it they always left me feeling overwhelmed. So this year, I decided to pick a planner which a beautiful art cover. It’s the star of my desk, and is such a treat to my eyes!
2. Pick your scent
Fragrances reduce stress and promote relaxation. Their gentle flicker also create ambience, soft lighting against the bright lights often associated with working environments.
Do you have a go-to playlist for your work-zone? Here’s some of my current favourites:
4. Stay hydrated
Singapore's warm. And that's an understatement. Even if you're working in an air-conditioned room, the air gets dry. Remind yourself to care for your well-being by propping a small bottle of water at the ready on your desk.
5. Add plants
Not only do they absorb the CO2 we don’t want and release oxygen which helps maintain healthy energy levels, they also absorb sounds - goodbye, distracting background noises!
6. Eye candy
Beautiful stationery makes routine jobs more fun. From your notebook, to your pens, clippers and binders, to your dream diary to organise your life.
